Ashe place. These lands are without doubt thi; most valuable on the Cape Fear. They are located nine miles above Fayetteville, on the East side of the CapM Fear, contain 702 acres, most admirably adapted to tho cultivation of cotton, corn, oats and wheal. .Men of acknowledged judgment say it will average 80 lo 50 bushels of corn to the acre; about 200 acres are cleared, and it will produce 100 bales of cotton, besides provi sions for the force. The uncleared land cannot be surptfssed any wuero, and will yield -50 to 80 bushels of corn to the acre, and (IS much Cotton as any in ihis country; situated within 9 miles of the best market in the State, with Steambo&t navigation to either Fayetteville or Wilmington; with richness of soil seldom equalled—never surpassed, makes the most VALUABLE and DESIRABLE FARM in the State. The death oj Henry Clay.—He appeared in his place at the next session; but all saw that the glorious light was fading from his noble brow. He died as he doubtless wished to die—in the pub lic service, in sight of the theatre of his great re nown, almost under the flag of his country. Once again his body was in that Capitol—not as before, erect with lotty crest and glittering eye; but prone and pallid in death. Words of earnest and truthful eulogy were poured forth, and then commenced that great national funeral march—the more than Aurelian triumph. Through Balti more, Philadelphia, New York—and solemn si lence rested on tho.se great cities, and the crowds that once came forth to hail the living form, were j there in sadness to honor his passing bier- His I remains wore fitly placed, the fir.st night in the I old Hallot Independence, afterwards under guards ! ot honor in the City Halls and State Houses; up I the Hudson, every' vessel with its flag at half ; mast and cannon booming from every town and I village; along the railroads, with multitudes a.s- I senibled at every station to manifest their share ! in the general grief; across the lakes he loved I so well; another pageant at Cleveland; wreaths of ‘ oak, of immortelles, of cypre.ss, of ivy, of laurel; I old men bursting into tears as they gazed upon j his coffin; maidens pressing their lips upon it in agony of heart; young men bowed down by the crushing sense that the great chieftain, the centre ot their love and hopes, was gore; until at last he reached that loved Kentucky, beneath whose green sod, with the remains of her own gallant sons, he wished to be laid. There let him rest under the epitaph .suggested by the gallant adver- iiry: “Here lies a man who was in the public 2i)0 do Fine FIGS. New York .\pples.
